“Exhale negativity, inhale love.” – Ebay Williams, H.E.L.P.E.R. Foundation
The Urban Peace Academy re-launched in February 2022 with 25 participants who are committed to creating peace in their communities through violence intervention. Now in its sixth week, participants have covered topics ranging from personal history and trauma, community healing, rumor control, and license to operate. Trainings are facilitated by experts in the field of violence intervention providing in-depth and firsthand knowledge of the work.
After a session on the manifestations of community violence led by Kelli Dillon of Back to the Basics, Academy participants went to Ted Watkins Park to finish the day with yoga. Ebay Williams, a community violence intervention worker with the H.E.L.P.E.R. Foundation, led the group in breathing exercises and connecting with the environment.
